All bloodlines carry one or more undesirable traits, such as overshot or undershot bites, missing teeth, long or curly coats, light eyes. Some disorders and unstable temperament are also hereditary. Puppies of a pet quality have only minor defects. They may come from a certified stock and usually possess the same personality and working abilities as their show quality relatives, but they cannot be bred or shown. It’s not always possible to eliminate faults in the offspring even by careful breeding. When a person is after a breeding stock or a potential champion, he or she should know the breed standard perfectly and look for the best representatives of the breed.
